The Red Checks

When: 18:30 – 19:15

The RED CHECKS are a Welsh band based in Manchester, known for their raw, abrasive garage rock sound. Formed in Glastonbury in 2021, they draw inspiration from legends like The Strokes and Manic Street Preachers. Their debut single, ‘Matchbox,’ earned BBC Introducing Track of the Week spring boarding them to become finalists in Glastonbury Festival’s Pilton Stage competition. They have performed at venues like The Fleece Bristol, Clwb Ifor Bach Cardiff and Gullivers Manchester, sharing stages with Delights, Luna Blue and Pacifica. The band includes frontman Tomi Edwards, guitarists Rhys Miller and Ben Turner, bassist Shaun Roberts, and drummer Ekam Bijral. They tackle social deprivation with bold yet playful lyrics, evolving their sound to incorporate shoegaze influences such as Fontaines DC. From the band: “When we come together to create music, it’s as much a pleasure as it is a challenge, as much a privilege as it is a task, as much a feeling as it is intuition. We will continue to create music as long as we can, and as long as the feeling we and people around the world get when listening to music exists, we will continue to try to make our mark on what we believe to be the greatest thing in the world.” Their debut EP, ‘New Modern Games,’ resonated with fans in South Wales. Now, they are crafting a new project that challenges stagnation in rock music, aiming for a more abrasive futuristic sound whilst keeping the catchy pop songwriting that makes audiences bounce.
